Aston Martin design a plane! Meet the Vision Volante

It's just a concept for the moment, but Aston is interested enough to enter the low-altitude aeroplane game.

"We saw this as an emerging area of luxury mobility," explains Marek Reichman, Aston Martin executive vice president and chief creative officer, and "We’ve got an interest in next generation mobility and low altitude airflight."

Well, how brilliant is that bro - and how brilliant is this?

It's called the Vision Volante Concept and we want one so badly that it hurts. Holy smokes - it is sick!

Designed in conjunction with Rolls-Royce (it's air division that is) and Cranfield University, it might very well be the coolest thing you see today, and if it isn't, please tweet us something cooler...

It uses a modern gas turbine hybrid propulsion system that will fly at around 350km/h, which isn't bad if you consider that how the crow flies is always faster anyway. Shorter flights will use electricity only so make sure that Eskom is in a good mood because it could be a bumpy one...

Of course, it contains vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capabilities, which means that you can put it in your garage alongside your Valkyrie, which is fitting. Its design, after all, was inspired by the Valkyrie, which, on it own, was always really a jet anyway made for tar.

When's it coming? Well, we don't know yet if it ever will, but if it does expect it sometime in the "next generation".

When's that? Who knows bro...
