Tears! Panther ProgettoUno is perfection

March 18, 2019

Yoh. Don't mind if we do.

Ninety. That's how many of these will be built says Ares Design so if you have a spare million or ten - or fifty probably - lying around the house, now's the time to get your order in.

Because my oh my is it beautiful and my oh my does it bring us to tears. Lazy eye for the car guy - take a look gents! Pop-up lights are cool all of the time, but when based on the classic De Tomaso Pantera - on a shape as retro as this - they might very well be the coolest things you'll see this year.

That says a lot, doesn't it? Just this year already we've got the most expensive Bugatti in the world, a Spanish super car out of Oupa's top drawer - not to mention a Singer-and-Williams-inspired gusheshe - so the fact that we're putting those bad boys aside for this sexy beast should say the most.

Jirre, this thing is nice.

Check it out: It's built on the legs of a Lamborghini Huracan, even though its performance is apparently not very important. Well, that's according to headquarters at least who say that it's not about power, but a “more emotional and more passionate [driving] experience".

Well, it will hit 100km/h in 3.1 seconds, which sounds pretty powerful to us, so at least there's that in case you were worried. You shouldn't be. Because, it's the presence, sound and feel of the thing that's most important. As such, the engine has not been upgraded, but tweaked and calibrated to change the sound and feel.

Retro is more than skin deep then. This is for the car lover who loves their retro'ness without the classic hassle, but still wants those earthy retro feels. It's for the emotional buyer - not the clean cut mut. This is a car for people who don't want any ordinary super car that anyone ordinary can recognise, but for the person who wants a super car that only true car lovers can identify.

It's truly beautiful in other words in ways that Lambo and Ferrari are not. Sure, they might be leading the way into the century, but the ProgettoUno is savouring the one gone, like a father who saves his moustache well into his 60s.

This time it looks good though. Real good. Except inside, which needs some more of that the De Tomaso spice, which we're sure you can get by the way.

Yes, Ares Design is such a bespoke car builder that they'll do whatever you want. Quite literally: "No request or demand from the customer is too hard," they say - none!

Well, don't mind if we do then.
